Replace Your Resmed CPAP Motor

Replace Your Resmed CPAP Motor

If your Cpap is giving you the “Motor Life Exceded” message your options are replace the unit or replace the motor. Replacing the motor will not remove the message but it will buy you more time. 5 years is the estimated life span. I have them for sale on Ebay if you need one.

There’s lots of help available to walk you through the process on Youtube .

It looks pretty intimidating but it’s really not that bad.  I used this video and just paused it along the way. I did have issues, but it was not really that bad.

You will need a T10 torx screwdriver to take it apart and some Q-Tips and soapy water to clean the dirt that you find along the way.

So I have a few things to mention that I ran into that might help you out should you run into a problem.

After completing the installation I tested the unit. It was tring to suck my face off. It was rather disturbing and I had no clue what was going on. It threw an error code quickly.  It was an error 020 which says the flow sensor is faulty, and this requires the main PC board to be replaced.  Well, I had to see what I did wrong. See list of error codes below.

While backtracking on my work with a focus on the rubber seals I found something that was not mentioned or I missed seeing in the videos I watched. These two seals were easy to spot.

But this one was not. It’s on the back of the board too.

So after checking these things and reassembly. It did the exact same thing. Same error code 020. I was about to give up but found a post on a forum where a user mentioned that he had installed the motor backwards. I immediately knew that’s what I had done. It explained why I had to fight getting the cabling to plug in. Once apart it was confirmed. After reassembly everything worked flawlessly.

Common Error Codes and Actions:
  • “System fault, refer to user guide, Error 001 Description: Motor has stalled (hardware)”

: This indicates a hardware issue with the motor itself, likely requiring a replacement.

  • “System fault, refer to user guide, Error 007 Description: Blower motor fault”

: This indicates a fault with the blower motor, which will need to be replaced.

  • “Motor Life Exceeded”

: This message appears after approximately 22,000 hours of therapy, and it’s recommended to contact your care provider for a new machine.

  • : This is a software data issue, and the main PC board will need to be replaced.

  • : This is a calibration data error, and the main PC board will need to be replaced.

  • : This is a non-specified error that will need either the blower motor or main PC board replaced.

  • : The flow sensor is faulty, and this requires the main PC board to be replaced.

  • Error 009

: This indicates a Motor H bridge failure, which is a hardware issue.

Troubleshooting Steps:
  • Check for Loose Connections: Ensure the machine is properly plugged in and all connections are secure.

  • Ensure Proper Ventilation: Make sure the machine has adequate ventilation to prevent overheating, especially if you suspect a flow sensor issue.

  • Contact ResMed or an Authorized Service Center: If the error persists or you are unsure of the cause, contact ResMed or an authorized service center for assistance.

I hope some of this info helps someone. If it keeps one peice of equipment out of a landfill then I will be happy.
