Check your light bulbs!

Upgrade to LED Bulbs!

Take a few minutes to look at the types of light bulbs you are using.  If your not using LED it’s time you started.  LED bulbs are on average 80% more efficient and last approximately 20 times longer than incandescent bulbs. You can save enough in one year to pay for the bulb.

But what if you installed CFL bulbs? ( Most commonly seen in the curly cue design) LED bulbs are (approx) 5% more efficient than CFL bulbs and last twice as long.

Here’s a picture of some CFL bulbs I recently replaced. I found them in my porch fixture. They don’t look safe to me.

I was told by a volunteer firefighter that he refuses to use them, after seeing a house fire, which he blames on these bulbs.

Use caution when disposing of these. They can contain small amounts of mercury, a hazardous waste. For disposal check with your local hardware store or fire department as most will have a hazardous waste disposal program.

Don’t forget about those long bulbs either, commonly found in the kitchen or garage. They make LED replacements for those too.
